And while it might be the best VPN for some, it’s certainly not for everybody – especially if you’re going to use the service for high-bandwidth activities like Netflix or gaming.ĭesign and FeaturesA very simple, aesthetically pleasing VPN, TunnelBear operates on a range of desktop computers and mobile devices, with MacOS, Windows, Android, and iOS apps to keep users’ data protected. But what is the cost of its convenience? We paid for TunnelBear’s full version to put it through its paces. There’s zero set-up required which means even the most tech-ignorant user can handle it with ease.Based in Canada but subtly owned by McAfee (a fact not mentioned on its website), TunnelBear is a low-cost, freemium virtual private network that will give you privacy in a pinch. To some people however, these constant attempts by the media industry to segregate users according to geographic location seems unfair The way around this issue is to use a VPN (which stands for Virtual Private Network) program, such as TunnelBear Then there’s all the music uploaded to YouTube, which is blocked in various parts of Europe, depending on the strength of the music industry lobbyists. For example, web services like Hulu, Pandora, Google Voice, and Google Music are not available outside of the United States, while BBC iPlayer and Grooveshark are blocked to anyone outside of the UK. One of the great ironies of the Internet is that it is meant to connect everyone together and break down barriers, but at the same time media companies erect location-based barriers around their properties. ![]()
